NOVI SAD
Novi Sad is a
town on the river Danube, located in the middle of the Vojvodina
part of Pannonia plain and is the second largest city in Serbia. It
is located between the 19th and 20th degree of the eastern longitude
and the 45th and 46th degree of the northern latitude, on 72 to 80 m
of altitude.
Novi Sad is
located on the international road, which connects Budapest and
Vienna, Thessalonica, Athens, Bucharest and Istanbul… The highway
E-72 (Budapest-Belgrade-Nis) passes alongside Novi Sad while the
highway E-70 (Zagreb-Belgrade) is in the close vicinity. The
average distance between Novi Sad and the neighboring countries
(Hungary, Romania, Croatia, Bosnia and Hercegovina) is 80 km while
the nearest airport in Belgrade is 70 km away. The advantage of this
town lies in its geo-strategic location.

Climate in the area of Novi Sad is moderate-continental. The town is
located on 70-80 m altitude.
Temperature:
The average annual temperature in the town is 10,9 °C. In winter,
the average temperature is –1 °C and in July it is 21,6 °C.

Annual rainfall is 686 mm, and there are 122 rainy days.
Population:
Novi Sad has 300 000 inhabitants (298 139 according to the census in
2002). Novi Sad is a multi-ethnic place (Serbs, Hungarians,
Montenegrins, Slovaks, Ruthenia’s, Croats, Hebrews, Romany people
and others) where national communities are equally presented in the
political, public and cultural life.
Languages:
Serbian
language and Cyrillic alphabet are officially used in the town.
Hungarian, Slovakian and Ruthenia languages and their alphabets are
also officially used according to the law and the specific decision
of the town’s Assembly.

administrative, economic and cultural centre of Serbia.
Religion: The
main religion in Serbia is Christian Orthodox. There are also other
religious communities in Serbia: Islamic, Roman Catholic,
Protestant, Jewish and other.
Government:
Democratic republic. The president and the parliament are elected
every four years in general election. Current president of Serbia is
Boris Tadic.

service: Most banks and post offices are open from 08.00 a.m. to
07.00 p.m. on weekdays and from 08.00 a.m. to 03.00 p.m. on
Saturdays. On Sundays there is usually a designated bank or post
office that maintains needed services.

accommodation: 295 hotels, 87 motels, 344 vacation complexes,
mountains lodges and other accommodation facilities. Total number of
beds is 88.598 (37.234 in hotels).
Shops: Food
shops typically open at 06.00 a.m. and work until 09.00 p.m., both
weekdays and Saturdays. Sundays they typically operate from 06.00
a.m. to 03.00 p.m. Everywhere, there are stores open 24 hours a day.
Markets are opened every day from 06.00 a.m. to 05.00 p.m.
Credit cards:
International credit cards Visa, Master Card, Diners and others are
accepted in the majority of stores, hotels and restaurants.
Airports:
Serbia has three international airports Belgrade Nikola Tesla (BEG),
Niš Constantine the Great Airport (INI) and Priština International
Airport (PRN).
Medical care:
Hospitals and out-patient clinics typically work 24 hours a day.
Private medical practices are common and emergency medical service
is available everywhere 24 hours a day. Pharmacies are opened from
08.00 a.m. to 08.00 p.m. on working days and on Saturdays from 08.00
a.m. to 03.00 p.m. Each city has a pharmacy that is open on Sundays
and throughout the night.

Transit visa
applicants are required to obtain the visa for the country they will
