The
background of the series of XMTWBC Workshops
The Xenobiotic Metabolism and Toxicity Workshop of Balkan Countries (XMTWBC)
has been organized six times in different cities of Balkan countries
since 1991 initiated by Professor Robert Smith from Drug Metabolism
Section of IUPHAR and held in Novi Sad (Prof. Momir Mikov),
Yugoslavia (1991), Ionnina, Greece (1995) (Prof. Marios Marselos),
Varna, Bulgaria (1997) (Prof Stanislav Yanev) Antalya, Turkey (
2000) (Prof. Mumtaz Iscan) , Constanta, Romania (2002) (Prof.
Constantin Mircioiou) and Banja-Luka, Bosnia and Herzegovina (2004)
(Prof. Ranko Skrbic).
The workshops have successfully provided a forum for discussion and
exchange between experienced scientists in the area of
xenobiotic metabolism and toxicity from industry and academic
circles while providing newcomers a valuable introduction to
the field.
7th Xenobiotic Metabolism and Toxicity Workshop of Balkan
Countries (7th XMTWBC) is going to be held in Novi Sad
3-6 June, 2008. The workshop gathered the scientists not just in the
field of xenobiotic metabolism and toxicitsy but also on more general
aspects of Toxicology and related disciplines from Balkans and
Europe. The one of the main aims of the workshop is to stimulate the
research in Metabolism and Toxicology in the area and enable the
participants to follow the latest developments in the field and
provided opportunity to discuss and get the chance of collaboration
between the scientists from the region and Europe. The initial and
leading support of this workshop by Drug Metabolism Section of
IUPHAR is a great encouragement to continue the series of
workshops.
